Description

I got my PhD degree from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), with a thesis on the fabrication and characterization of plasmonic copper nanoparticles embedded in silica. Then I moved to Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) to conduct a postdoctoral stay simulating the optical response of plasmonic nanostructures and back to UNAM to work on the manufacture of superhard coatings based on nanocomposites of metal nitrides embedded in amorphous carbon. In 2009 I moved to Spain for a stay at Instituto de Ciencias de Materiales de Barcelona studying the optical properties of silicon and germanium quantum dots. Later I joined the CMAM-UAM laboratory to study the effects of the high electronic density induced in dielectrics by the irradiation with swift heavy ions and their possible use to manufacture waveguides. Since March, 2012 I work as a postdoctoral researcher at Instituto de Fusión Nuclear (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) where my main research line is focused on developing new materials for applications in fusion energy (final optics). This includes growing, irradiation, characterization and simulation of the optical response of different nanostructured materials. Growth is carried out by deposition techniques like pulsed laser deposition and sputtering. Irradiation is carried out using plasma discharges, fast heavy ions and femtosecond laser beams.

Various experimental techniques are used for characterizing the nanomaterials through collaboration with other institutions (electron and atomic force microscopy, ion beam analysis, X-rays, mechanical tests). We have also developed specific equipment to study nanostructures and thin films: optical equipment for in situ measurements, gas permeability and thermal programmed desorption. Regarding computer simulations, I have experience simulating the optical response of nanostructures by different techniques (FDTD, Mie theory, etc.) and the irradiation damage with molecular dynamics.
